According to the Federation of Journalists in Latin America and Caribbean (FEPALC), the female reporter for El Mercurio and La Verdad newspapers in the Mexican city of Victoria, Tamaulipas state was gunned down in the morning as she was driving to work. She became the second Mexican journalist killed in as many days following the murder of journalist Elido Ramos Zárate on 19 June.

Fepalc added that 15 journalists have been killed and 17 others disappeared in the state of Tamaulipas since 2010.
