Peter Moi

The reporter for the New Nation newspaper was shot dead in an apparent attack, according to his colleagues quoted in media reports. Moi was killed after leaving work in Juba, the capital city of the youngest African nation. No money or telephone were taken from the victim, media reports added. Oliver Modi, President of the Union of Journalists in South Soudan described the incident as " an intentional killing."

The killing happened shortly after South Sudanese President Salva Kiir reportedly threatened to kill journalists who reported "against the country."
