The killing of Belarus-born journalist Pavel Sheremet, who died in a targeted car bomb in Kiev today, has been widely condemned. The International and European Federations of Journalists, their affiliates in Russia and Ukraine as well as the OSCE media freedom representative Dunja Mijatović have today condemned the murder and called for the killers to face justice.

44-year-old Pavel Sheremet, who worked for the Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper, died when the car he was driving exploded shortly after it started, according to the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office. He was critically injured and died shortly afterwards.

Some reports said that the car belonged to his employer, Alyona Pritula, the founder and chief editor of Ukrainskaya Pravda.The media company was founded by Pritula and Georgy Gongadze, who was assassinated in 2000. Pavel Sheremet and Olena Prytula had complained of being followed, according to independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
