Marcos Hernández Bautista

The journalist, who worked for broadcast newslets and Noticias Voz in Oaxaca, was found dead near his car with a gunshot wound in the town of San Andrés Huaxpaltepec.

Bautisa reported closely on the precarious situations of community and indigenous radio stations in the region. In particular, he had covered the closing down of a cultural radio for indigenous community, XEJAM by the National Commission for the development of indigenous people. Furthermore, the journalist had spoken of fear in his newsroom as a result of their reporting on local and national politics.
