The journalist and television reporter was abducted near Santa Rita, in the department of Yoro on 20 July, reports said. He was found dead the following day with multiple gunshot wounds.

Espinal worked as chief correspondent for the programme Hoy Mismo on Televicentro based in San Pedro Sula, the second largest city in Honduras.
