​DIHA journalist Cüneyt Yavuz injured in tear gas canister attack at Protest in Turkey

Cüneyt Yavuz, a journalist working for Istanbul-based Kurdish news agency Dicle Haber Ajansı (DİHA), in the leg by a tear gas canister fired by the riot police during protests in the Istanbul neighbourhood of Gazi On 26 July 2015. Police reportedly prevented ambulances from accessing the area, causing Yavuz to wait around an hour for treatment. Riots broke out between police and demonstrators during the funeral of a member of the leftist group who was killed two days before and the journalist was believed to have been targeted in an attempt by the authorities to curtail media reporting on the event.

The incident was referred to the Council of Europe's Platform for the promotion of journalism and safety of journalists in a joint submission by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its European organisation, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ).
