Call to End Impunity as Tribute for 82 Journalists Killed in 2017

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today launched its full annual report on journalists and media staff killed in 2017, which details the killings of 81 journalists and media staff recorded on the list published on 31 December 2017.

The number has since been updated to 82 following confirmation that Afghan journalist Said Mehdi Hosaini was killed in the bomb attack at a Shia cultural center in Kabul on 28 December 2017.

The stories and tragedies in the report reveal, that although there is much to welcome in a year when the number of work related killings of journalists fell to their lowest level in a decade, the death toll in journalism remains unacceptably high.
