Siraj Abdelhafid al-Mogassbi was seized from Al-Hayat's offices after assaillants entered the building and threatened staff before taking him away.
It is not the first time journalists have been targeted recently in Libya. Last year, Mohammed Baayou, the head of Libya’s state-owned Media Corporation was arrested together with his two sons and journalist Hind Ammar.
IFJ General Secretary Anthony Bellanger said: “The kidnapping of Siraj Abdelhafid al-Mogassbi shows once again that more work must be done in Libya to secure the protection of journalists and media workers. We call for an immediate investigation into the matter.”
Libya’s presidential elections are expected to take place on December 24. The IFJ has expressed its concerns about the security issues this period may create for journalists.
