The Iraqi journalist and a member of the IFJ affiliate in Iraq, the Iraqi Journalists’ Syndicate (IJS) was murdered by al-Qaeda linked terrorist group in the Idlib region of Syria near the border with Turkey.

According to reports, freelance journalist and cameraman Faisal, was travelling with his Syrian fixer and a driver when they were stopped by the Islamist insurgents who shot him dead and injure his driver. The two colleagues were able to bring his body over the border into Turkey.

The Iraqi Journalists Syndicate (IJS) has condemned the "heinous murder" and demanded that the perpetrators are brought to justice. It has also urged all relevant authorities in Syria, Turkey and Iraq to cooperate with the union to bring Faisal's body back to his family.
