The cameraman for Canal 25 TV was gunned down by two armed men who shot him in broad day light in central Santiago before fleeing the scene. Reports said that police ruled out robbery as a motive for the murder which took place at a time of heighteined violence targeting journalists. Three days prior to the killing, another journalist Pedro Fernandez of El Nacional newspaper had escaped an murder attempt.
