Fernando Raymondi Uribe

The investigative journalist who worked revista Caretas was shot deadwhile visiting family in his father’s dry goods store in Cañete, south of Lima. Reports said that two gunmen entered, shot Uribe, and left without stealing anything from the shop.

At the time of his death, Uribe was investigating multiple stories concerning dangerous crime and corruption. Specifically, he had been investigating murderous gangs that extort construction companies in Cañete. In the past he had worked on stories about the relationship between a Mexican drug trafficker and Congressman Jose Leon and also on the violent eviction that eventually led to the death of a man in Cajamarca by a police squad.
