The 48-year-old prominent American journalist died in Qatar after collapsing while covering the World Cup, according to media reports. A witness was quoted by CNN as saying that Wahl had “collapsed” while covering Friday’s Argentina-Netherlands match.

Media reports added that Qatar’s World Cup organisers said that Wahl had fallen ill in the press area, where he had received “immediate medical treatment on site.” He was then transferred to Hamad General Hospital, according to spokesperson for the Supreme Court Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the body responsible for planning the tournament, quoted in media.
