IFJ Executive Committee adopted motion on Greece

The IFJ Executive Committee adopted motion on the trial for the murder of Greek journalist Giorgos Karaivaz at its meeting in London on 20 and 21 June 2024.

On the impending trial for the assassination of Greek journalist Giorgos Karaivaz

This Annual General Meeting of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), meeting in London, United Kingdom, 19 June 2024,

Noting that it has been more than 3 years since the assassination of our Greek colleague Giorgos Karaivaz, 

Highlighting that, for our Greek affiliate JUADN, and for all journalists in the world, the case remains of uttermost importance and will remain so, until the perpetrators are convicted,  

The IFJ Annual General Meeting, since the trial of those who have allegedly committed the murder of our colleague commences on June 26th,   

Expresses the firm belief that Greek Justice will perform its duty and requests of the Greek Authorities to continue the investigation for the identification and conviction of the masterminds behind the murder of Giorgos Karaivaz, so as to reveal all aspects of this hideous crime.

The IFJ AGM calls on IFJ AdCom/ExCom to monitor the case regularly, in collaboration with other relevant organizations, associations, the Council of Europe and the OSCE and stand by the family of Giorgos Karaivaz and the journalistic community in Greece that still remain in shock after the brutal murder of our colleague.
