The TV journalist Mohammad for TV Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) was killed in the shooting at a meeting in the governor’s compound in Kandahar city in which the region’s police chief Gen Abdul Raziq, the provincial spy agency chief Abdulmomin Hassankhil and a senior Afghan National Army officer were shot dead.

Sohail had just left the District Police Office (DPO) in Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when he was shot at several times. He died at the scene. However, we still have to fight on the core issues that affect our members every day. At the end of October, in the United Nations building in New York, the IFJ will present its proposal for a Convention on journalists' protection and safety. Here too, the deadline is close. The director of the weekly Playa News was gunned down in the tourist city of Quintana Roo. According to local press reports, Pat was shot at least six times outside a bar in the city centre. He had denounced threats and assaults against him back in January 2017, following his investigation which linked some administration officials to organised crime groups.
