The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) expresses concern over the restrictions for journalists and media workers trying to report on the deadly explosions in Tianjin on August 12. The IFJ reiterates its calls made on August 14 for the government to ensure media workers have free access to report on the incident. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) demands the Hong Kong Police Department bring the mastermind of the attack on Kevin Lau to justice immediately. The International Federation of Journalists strongly criticises Chinese authorities who continue to suppress and constrict media reporting following the deadly explosion in Binhai, Tianjin on August 12. On 20 July 2015, Marjan Stamenkovski , editor of “Dokaz” website, was brutally assaulted outside a coffee bar in Skopje by a group of five masked men who beat him up using metal bars. The photojournalist for Nineveh Media Network in Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province in northern Iraq, was shot dead by the so-called Islamic State on charges of spying. The father of two worked who worked as a cameraman for Al Mosuliya TV before joining Nineveh Media Network as a photojournalis had been abducted from his home on 4 June by the IS, according to the Iraqi Journalists' Syndicate (IJS), an IFJ affiliate.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its affiliate the Association of Taiwan Journalist (ATJ) call for the immediate release of three journalists in Taipei, Taiwan. In a letter addressed today to the President of the United States Barak Obama, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) asked the president to support its demand for the release of all imprisoned journalists and bloggers in Ethiopia ahead of his visit to the country.   President Obama will visit Ethiopia late July to meet with Ethiopian government and African Union leaders. 7271. IFJ slams Egypt over crippling fine for reporting ‘false information that contradicts official statements’ in new anti-terrorism bill  

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has welcomed the amendment of the new Egyptian anti-terrorism draft which removed yesterday the custodial sentence of up two years for publishing “false information on terrorist attacks that contradict official statements” but condemned the decision to replace it with a fine of between 23.000 – 58.000 € for the same offence, under Art 33 of the draft law. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) criticises the actions of Xiong Aichun, the Chairperson of the China Federation of Literacy and Arts Circle, in an incident with an online media platform, where the company’s property was destroyed.
