The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) held a seminar on gender and media on 4 and 5 September in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event was supported by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and formed part of a triannual project led in the region to promote gender equality in journalists' trade unions' activities.  The seminar ended with the adoption of the Buenos Aires Declaration( in spanish). On Monday 14 September 2015, a delegation of the PFUJ, the IFJ affiliate in Pakistan, visited for the first time the IFJ headquarters in Brussels. The delegation was welcomed by IFJ deputy general secretary Anthony Bellanger. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) joins its affiliate the Colombian Federacion of journalists (FECOLPER) in condemning the murder of a Colombian woman journalist.  Nuñez was shot on September 10 in Pitalito, Huila as she was entering her workplace. Two journalists have been killed in less than 24 hours in Pakistan. 42-year-old senior journalist Aftab Alam, who was on sabbatical due to health issues, was killed in a gun attack near his home in Karachi. Unknown assailants opened fire on 42-year-old Alam and fled the scene. Alam was rushed to hospital by his mother and sister but he died from his injuries. Alam was last employed in Geo TV and had also worked for Saama TV earlier in his career. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is saddened by death of a Sri Lankan journalist on duty on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the North Central Province. According to police reports, the 43-year-old provincial journalist was attacked by a wild elephant in Minneriya, near a national park in the north central province where the journalist had gone to cover incidents of wild elephant attacks in the area. He was admitted to the Hingurakgoda Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The IFJ’s affiliate, the Yemen Journalists’ Syndicate (YJS), on Monday launched a report on press freedom violations in the country the first half of 2015 . Today, Australian journalist, Alan Morison and Thai journalist, Chutima Sidasathian will start their three day (14-16 July) trial on defamation charges at the Phuket Provincial Court in Thailand. The pair were charged with criminal defamation on April 17, 2014 under articles 326 and 328 of the Thai Criminal Code and were also charged with ; and violation of article 14(1) of the Computer Crimes Act. The journalist, who worked for local newspaper Bagting sa Katilingban and President of the Davao del Norte Press and Radio-TV Club (DNPRC), was killed after being shot three times in the chest and once in the arm outside his house on 18 August. He was immediately rushed to hospital following the attack, but died in hospital on August 19. In an interview following Ybanez’s murder, Boy Conejes, Vice President of the DNPRC, said Ybanez had received death threats in 2012.

7197. Two US Media Staff Gunned Down on Air in Virginia  

Two members of WDBJ7 TV crew, a CBS affiliated in the US state of Virginia, were shot dead by a gunman during a live report from a shopping centre. The gunman , suspected to be a former WDBJ7 TV employee, opened fire on 24-year-old journalist Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward in the middle of a live interview, killing both of them, reports said. According to reports, police in Faidpur, Bareily of Uttar Pradesh arrested two people dragging the body of the 42-year-old journalist on Station Road in Faidpur in the early hours of Friday 14 August. The third suspect managed to escape from the scene. Initial investigations showed that Pathak was hit on the head several times with heavy object, reports added. Pathak was last seen talking to friends near his house in the Baxaria area late on Thursday night.

The reporter for the New Nation newspaper was shot dead in an apparent attack, according to his colleagues quoted in media reports. Moi was killed after leaving work in Juba, the capital city of the youngest African nation. No money or telephone were taken from the victim, media reports added.
