The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its regional organisation the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) have together joined their affiliate the Association of Polish Journalists (SDP, in Polish) in condemning the killing of journalist Lukasz Masiak last 13 June in Mlawa town, north center of Poland. The 40-year-old journalist working for Jabalpur based newspapers, in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh was abducted after an accident between his motorcycle and a car on June 19. On June 21, Kathari’s half burnt-body was found near Nagpur in Maharashtra. According to reports, prior to his death, Kothari had reported extensively on illegal mining in the area and had filed a case against an illegal mining gang. The 31-year-old editor of editor of a local online news portal NaszaMlawa.pl, was been beaten to death in the night of 13 to 14 June 2015 in the city center of Mlawa, a town located in north-central Poland. Masiak, who reported mainly on the local administration in Mlawa, had received death threats because of his journalistic work and an obituary message was sent to his s home. 7355. IFJ urges Mexican authorities to investigate the killing of a journalist  

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) expressed its great concern over the killing of a fourth Mexican journalist this year and supports its Mexican affiliate the Sindicato Nacional de Redactores de Prensa (SNRP) in its appeal to the Attorney General of Tabasco (FGE) and the Special Prosecutor for Crimes against Freedom of Expression (FEADLE) to investigate this death immediately. The International Federation of Journalists welcomes the release of al-Jazeera journalist Ahmed Mansour who has been detained in Germany after an extradition request from Egypt. Veteran Egyptian-British journalist Ahmed Mansour was held on June 20 as he tried to board a flight from Berlin to Qatar following an extradition order from Egypt. The journalist has been accused of taking part in the torture of a lawyer in Cairo’s Tahrir Square in 2011 and sentenced to 15 years prison in absentia by an Egyptian court. The 42-year-old freelance journalist Jagendra Singh died from major burn injuries sustained after he was allegedly set alight in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in India’s north. 7408. Access denied to non-state media at Chinese ferry sinking tragedy  

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) condemns the suppression of the press following the capsizing of the Oriental Star cruise on the Yangtze River on June 1 where only state media were given authorisation to report. The IFJ said attempts to block non-state media outlets from reporting the incident was a clear breach of the public’s right to know. On June 1, 456 passengers were on board the Oriental Star cruise when it sank, allegedly due to poor weather conditions on the Yangtze River, Jianli, in Hubei Province. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its affiliate the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) express serious concerns over the recent state directives against upcoming television station, BOL TV Channel.
