The director of the weekly Playa News was gunned down in the tourist city of Quintana Roo. According to local press reports, Pat was shot at least six times outside a bar in the city centre. He had denounced threats and assaults against him back in January 2017, following his investigation which linked some administration officials to organised crime groups. He had also been detained and tortured by local police because of this investigation, local sources added.
