The 53-year-old senior journalist for the Telagu daily, Andra Prabha was beaten to death in Guntur of Andra Pradesh, south eastern India on 25 November. Reports said that Sankar was attacked by half-a-dozen unidentified assailants with iron rods and sticks in front of his residence in Chilakaluripet town. He succumbed to the injuries a day later at a government hospital.
Sankar had reportedly written a series of stories exposing several scams in public distribution system. He even lodged a complaint with Guntur police seeking action against errant food dealers. He was said to have provided police with a list of dealers involved in selling subsidized food items.
