The freelance photojournalist was killed while covering clashes which marred the third anniversary of the popular uprising in the country which led the ousting of former President Hosni Mubarak.

His colleague, Mohammed Fahmy, a photojournalist working for the centre-right Wafd party newspaper, was shot in the face and underwent surgery to rebuild his mouth, according to reports.
