What is women's representation in the news management?
How do women journalists make their way in today's media changes? What role can
journalists unions play in promoting gender equality? How can media strengthen
gender portrayal in the news?
These are some of the questions that will be addressed
at the International Federation of Journalists' (IFJ) Conference on Ethics and Gender- Equalityin the
newsroom on 30-31st May at the International Auditorium
Boulevard du Roi Albert II, 5 1210 Bruxelles
In addition to the launch of the IFJ
gender booklet on "Getting the balance right", the conference will examine the
performance of journalists in reporting gender issues and how greater equality
improves journalism ethics. The conference will also assess the status of women
in the media and examine the role journalists' unions play in promoting gender
ethics in the newsroom.
60 journalists from across the world will
convene in Brussels
to discuss and assess a range of programmes and campaigns that have been tried
and tested out in the recent years.
A whole day will be dedicated to IFJ
affiliates' initiatives to stop gender inequalities in the profession.
The Conference is sponsored by UNESCO,
LO.TCO, IMS the Norwegian ministry of Foreign affairs and the IFJ.
